What do horsehair and feathers have to do with Raku fired pottery? Join the fun and explore simple pottery hand-building techniques and interesting surface textures. That is where the horsehair and feathers come into the picture. They can be used to affect the surface of a hot ceramic pot after the Raku firing. Experiment with various glazing techniques and the outdoor Raku firing process. The pots can be burnished using terra sigillata (a very smooth, lustrous coating of clay which resembles a glaze and is virtually waterproof.) Back to the horsehair and feathers…strands of them can be laid across the hot pot and leave a wandering linear smoke design. Beautiful feather impressions can be made this way too! You will be able to make several pots during the Two sessions in the time this multi-day workshop covers. Session One will be on May 11th, 12th & 21st. Tuition Fee is per Session, not per day! This is available for Iowa Central Community College Credit. Call 515.835.0497 for more Information. The instructor is Maureen Seamonds.
